Dollar Savings Infrastructure for African Businesses

Dollar Savings Infrastructure for African Businesses

Key takeaways

  • Regini lets organisations offer USD savings accounts to their members, staff, or users via M-Pesa
  • No infrastructure to build: compliance, custody, KYC, and yield are all handled by Regini
  • Works for employers, NGOs, SACCOs, cooperatives, and fintechs
  • Live in as little as 2–4 weeks via REST API or a no-code partner dashboard

Most organisations that serve communities across Africa face the same problem: their members, employees, or beneficiaries need better ways to save and receive money, but building that infrastructure from scratch is expensive, slow, and requires expertise most teams don't have.

Regini is the infrastructure layer that solves this. It lets organisations offer their communities a USD savings product, powered by M-Pesa, without writing a line of financial code or navigating custody and compliance alone.

Who Uses Regini for Business

Regini is built for four types of organisations.

Employers who want to offer staff a real financial benefit. Instead of another branded mug, employees get a dollar savings account linked to their payroll. Workers save directly from their salary. HR sets it up once and doesn't need to touch it again. It's a meaningful benefit that costs relatively little to administer, and in a tight job market, financial wellness matters to retention.

NGOs and aid organisations that disburse stipends, grants, or welfare payments. Cash disbursements are prone to leakage and fraud. Bank transfers require beneficiaries to have accounts many don't have. Regini gives each beneficiary their own auditable savings account, accessible via M-Pesa, with a full transaction trail for your programme reports. No middlemen. No cash handling.

SACCOs and cooperatives looking to go digital. Many SACCOs still run on paper ledgers and physical passbooks. Regini gives members fully digital savings accounts where they can earn yield on their balances and withdraw via M-Pesa. You retain full visibility into contributions, balances, and activity across all members.

Fintechs and aggregators building savings products. If you're building a financial app for the Kenyan or African market, Regini gives you a REST API that handles accounts, wallets, yield, KYC, and compliance. You own the user relationship. Regini handles everything behind it.

What Regini Provides

Every Regini partnership includes the core infrastructure your programme needs:

  • USD savings accounts for each member or user, earning approximately 5% variable annual yield from day one. No bank account required. Deposits and withdrawals go through M-Pesa.
  • Group accounts for welfare funds, SACCOs, or shared savings pools. Shared visibility and controls for your team, with full member-level reporting.
  • Payroll and disbursements for paying workers or beneficiaries directly into their Regini accounts. Schedule recurring payroll or trigger one-off grants.
  • KYC and compliance managed by Regini. You don't need to navigate Kenyan financial regulations yourself. We handle identity verification, AML checks, and our VASP registration.
  • Full audit trail on every transaction. Every deposit, withdrawal, and disbursement is logged and exportable for your internal reporting or donor accountability.

How Getting Started Actually Works

Most organisations are live within two to four weeks of signing a partnership agreement. The process is straightforward:

  1. Sign a partnership agreement. We handle the regulatory side. You focus on your programme design: how many members, what savings rules, what disbursement schedules.
  2. Set up your programme. Use the partner dashboard to configure savings rules, contribution schedules, and group structures. No engineering team required for basic programmes. For more complex integrations, our REST API gives you full programmatic control.
  3. Invite your community. Members join via their M-Pesa number, WhatsApp, or through your own platform. No smartphone required for basic access. No bank account. No paperwork beyond a national ID.
  4. Members start saving and earning. From that point, every member earns yield on their balance daily. You get full visibility through the partner dashboard. We handle the rest.

How the API Works for Developers

If you have an engineering team and want to embed savings directly into your product, Regini's REST API covers the full lifecycle:

  • Create and manage user accounts and wallets
  • Trigger deposits, withdrawals, and internal transfers
  • Manage group accounts and contribution rules
  • Set up bulk disbursements and payroll runs
  • Receive webhook events for every transaction

You can be live in a sandbox environment within minutes. A full integration typically takes two to four weeks depending on your team's capacity.

What It Costs

Regini's pricing is structured around the size and needs of your programme.

The Launch plan is free: zero monthly fee, 15% performance fee on yield generated. It supports up to 100 wallets and 50 transactions per month. It's designed for pilots and proof-of-concept programmes. You can test the full platform with a small group before committing.

The Growth plan is €99 per month with a 12.5% performance fee. It supports 500 wallets and 2,500 transactions per month, adds WhatsApp and USSD channels, bulk onboarding, and advanced analytics.

The Scale plan is €499 per month with a 10% performance fee. That gives you 5,000 wallets, unlimited transactions, plus savings rules engine and payroll integrations.

For larger programmes, including national NGOs, high-volume fintechs, and enterprise employers, Custom pricing is available with dedicated support, white-labelling, and SLA agreements.

The performance fee is charged only on yield earned by your members. You are never charged on deposits or principal. If your members earn nothing, you pay nothing beyond the monthly plan fee.

Why Organisations Choose Regini

The honest answer: building this yourself is hard. Getting a VASP licence, setting up custody, integrating with M-Pesa at scale, managing KYC, and maintaining a yield product. That's multiple years of work and significant capital. Most organisations neither have the time nor the regulatory appetite.

Regini has already built it. You add the member relationships and programme design. We handle the infrastructure.

That said, Regini is not the right fit for every organisation. If your programme is highly specialised, if you need on-premise infrastructure, or if your compliance requirements are unusual, you'll want to have a detailed conversation before committing. We'd rather be honest about fit upfront than oversell and underdeliver.

If you think Regini might work for your organisation, the easiest first step is a conversation. Email partners@regini.finance or reach out on WhatsApp. We can usually give you a clear picture of what's possible, and what isn't, within one call.
